Canvas is a strong enterprise LMS.
Its strengths include institutional scale, mobile apps, broad integrations, SIS connectivity, parent access, and centralized analytics.
Innovation is the teacher’s instructional toolkit.
It combines LMS fundamentals with specialized activities teachers can launch, monitor, score, revisit, and discuss without leaving the platform.
Feature-by-feature
Green means the capability is built in or available as a named first-party feature. A red × means no comparable native, purpose-built workflow was identified in the official Canvas materials reviewed.

The practical difference
Canvas gives institutions a broad platform and a large integration ecosystem. Innovation gives teachers the actual activities: the drill, the sort, the conversation, the live response, the monitored test, the collaborative deck, the debrief, and the next instructional move.
Less assembling. More teaching.
When the activity, monitor, scoring workflow, feedback controls, and AI assistance are already connected, teachers spend less time constructing a toolchain and more time responding to students.
